Description: Biniyam Mulat Seed Enterprise is a sole proprietorship business established with an initial capital of ETB 500,000 in 2016. The enterprise is a legally registered business operating in Amhara Region. business is engaged in the production of hybrid maize seed (various seed varieties), processing, and distribution to smallholder farmers. The business model of our enterprise is contract farming and in this model, we offer lucrative prices to out-grower farmers, as an incentive engage in the production of improved seeds. As the major activities, the enterprise supplies certified seeds field-based extension support to out-growers and help them to produce ty seeds. Once the seeds are produced by out-growers, the enterprise will purchase the seeds, clean, pack and distribute them to grain producers, through agro-input dealers. Currently, the enterprise has seven staff including I executive manager, 5 experts, and 2 admin staff. enterprise currently has a well-developed distribution network agro-input suppliers. Similarly, our enterprise has also excellent work relationships with research organizations to access seeds. Since its establishment in 2016, the enterprise produced a total of 2300 metric tons of improved seeds, engaging over 900 out-grower smallholder farmers in over seven Woredas of Amhara Region.

Description: Oromia Agricultural Research Institute (OARI) was established on July 7, 2001 by proclamation No.44/2001 of Caffee Oromia (Megeleta Oromia 2001). Since, the Institute has been undertaking various research programs that have been fundamental for food security and poverty reduction. With the responsibility of solving major agricultural problems, the Institute conducting applied research programs in the region. Moreover, the Institute is coordinating and implementing various national research programs. To shoulder these great responsibilities, the institute organized itself in firm base of structure and planned action to solve researchable agricultural problems step by step. To increase agricultural productivity and hence the desired impacts, generation of demand driven, problem solving and cost-effective agricultural technologies is not an option but a necessity. To materialize this effect, OARI follows a new research approach that emphasizes on identifying strategic agricultural growth and development issue that help to overcome the rapidly changing conditions both in the internal and external environments.
The environments in which OARI operated has changed in many aspects. As, the case in many developing countries, the scarcity of resources is acute and critical, for there are many competing priorities that need attention. To win this competitive atmosphere and use the limited resources effectively and efficiently. OARI focuses on systematic, result oriented, participatory and team sprit research approach in diversified agro-ecologies and farming/pastoral system.
Currently, OARI has 17 research centers addressing various agro-ecologies of the region working on Crop, Coffee and Tea, Livestock, Natural Resource, Agricultural Engineering, Technology Multiplication, Crop Protection, Food Science, Agricultural Extension and Socio-Economics. Food science laboratory at headquarter and tissue culture at Adami Tulu Agricultural Research Center has been functioned to tackle agricultural problems and serving our farmers and pastoral society to transform agriculture through science and technology and contributing to food security and economic development of Oromia region in particular and the country in general.
Description: Oromia Seed Enterprise (OSE) has been established by Oromia Regional State Regulation No. 108/2000 of the Oromia Regional State to implement agricultural and rural development policy and strategy to ensure fast and sustainable economic development. By transplanting quality seeds in quantity and quality to ensure rapid and sustainable economic growth through the implementation of agricultural and rural development policies and strategies as its authority and role in development. The Oromia Seed Enterprise currently has 14 farms under three branches (Arsi Branch, Bale Branch, and West Oromia Branch) and around 32 thousand hectares of land. Oromia Seed Enterprise has acquired the land owned by the federal government and is engaged in the production of the quality seeds it needs.
